Good time Nao and Chu fanart


What should my next 2d sidescrolling animation be? I'll eventually get around to all of them but this will determine the order. Since I'm still practicing, I'll be using my Nao character.

Concept stuffs
Hadn't updated in a while.  In the middle of relocating the Chu motherbase.  This piece isn't finished and won't be for a while.  Thought it was good enough to post though. 
Weird stuff
Nothing fancy for todays sketch.  I do have some stuff in the pipeline though that I think peeps will really dig.
Game over!?
Was doing a daily sketch a few days ago when I got a bit carried away and now it's a colored sketch.  While coloring it I realized I really needed to make a character for the project.  Animating the ears on nao is fun and a good way to emote in a 2d setting especially but she doesn't really belong in this particular story/environment. I guess I could make her the main character but she would forfeit the environment / story I already created for her and that seems like a waste. 

Guess that's my next personal project.  Character design.

First off, I was just relaxing, having fun  thinking about game mechanics and I thought it would be neat to share some of my thoughts on my hypothetical game.
I'm tempering my expectations and am just labeling it as an animation project.. with some deep thoughts about the mechanics, lol. That being said, this is essentially me blabbing my thoughts on the subject of combat in a 2d sidescrolling metroidvania /dark souls like game.

Originally Nao was a mix of lucha libre and taikwondo and that simply won't work due to the more Del Toro like horror/fantasy oriented vision.  Some of the regular moves may appear a bit dull due to their mechanical nature but they feel like they need to be for better spacing and strategy purposes.  The game would feature a stamina bar where each attack / movement would use some of it.

so, here is some stupidly simplified info.

Normal movement set.              an initial stamina bar would be approximately ////////// (10).  Regen would be about / per 3 seconds while not performing a move that slowly drains stamina.
                                            stamina drain

1.walk (standard movement)       0                                     / per 3 seconds of use.
3.jump.                                   //                                   0
5.crawl.                                  / per 6 seconds of use.
6.climb.                                  ///
7.fade (dodge)                        ///

Standard attacks.  (on poll)

let's face it, special moves are where the excitement is at.  I only have a few ideas for those at the moment though.

A powerful roundhouse high kick. Because every lovely lady needs one.
A move that stops a roll half way through to lay prone under the bigger enemies and attack from below.  critical damage!

You might be.. well that's all nice Chu, what about it?  Honestly, I don't know! comment if you want.  If you want to share some ideas about 2d gaming logic, moves or  whatever, go for it!  Just general discussion about 2d combat. I'm not even sure I have any watchers whom like 2d games.  Just flinging my thoughts out there.
